Microsoft Windows OS impact

  • Microsoft's story is founded on the goal of having a world impact. Under the leadership of its first CEO Bill Gates, and on to his successor, Steve Ballmer, to its current leader Satya Nadella, Microsoft has been an integral part of social change and world affairs.

  • Four decades ago, Microsoft Founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen set the ambitious goal of putting a PC on every desk and in every home. Forty years later that goal has been largely realized.

  • With user-friendly tools like Windows, Office and MS Paint, Microsoft was successful with making computing, something that was remote and foreign to most people, a personal and easy experience.

  • Consumers and businesses also benefited from the fact that Microsoft's platform.

  • Microsoft in Education is still the dominant force in school systems around the world.

  • Microsoft's position of global influence gives its leadership a voice on matters of moral consequence and humanitarian concern.

MAC os x & IOS impact

  • The first Mac was the first fully mainstream computer with a graphical user interface, and therefore the first one with icons. They were famously designed by Susan Kare, who later did icons for Microsoft, Facebook and other clients. Apple unveiled a laptop with built-in Wi-Fi at Macworld Expo New York in 1999, the notion of being able to use the Internet without any cords was still so startling.

  • Apple shipped the first PowerBooks with touchpads — the company calls them Trackpads.

  • IPhone and IPad proved that phones and tablets can also be great media hubs.

  • Mac OS comes with an entire suite of beautifully designed apps. It works hand in hand with iCloud to keep photos, documents, and other stuff up to date on all your devices.

  • With every Mac, you get a collection of powerful apps. They’re the same apps you use on your iPhone or iPad, so they’ll feel instantly familiar. They all work with iCloud, so your schedule, contacts, and notes are always up to date everywhere.

  • Mac OS comes standard with a wide range of assistive technologies that help people with disabilities experience what the Mac has to offer, providing many features you won’t find in other operating systems. Voice Control lets users control their Mac, iPad, and iPhone entirely with their voice. And features such as VoiceOver, Accessibility Keyboard, FaceTime,6 and Text to Speech help everyone get more out of Mac.

LINUX OS impact
  • A quarter of a century is a long time in IT, but Linux, which has turned 25, is now at the heart of many hugely successful enterprises. Linux has provided a low-cost base platform on which to run large internet applications, mainly as an alternative to proprietary Unix systems.

  • What is also interesting is that Linux was also pitted against Windows, and some organisations, such as the city of Munich, made public commitments to move to open source, even running desktop Linux rather than Windows PCs.

  • To compete with Windows and commercial Unixes, Linux has had to become more palatable to business. Thanks to the efforts of organisations such as SuSE, Red Hat and many others, Linux is very much a part of the enterprise.

  • It not only replaced Unix servers, but has also been used when Windows servers failed.

  • Web page is likely hosted on a machine that is running off Linux? Your television, phone, and even your car may be running a version of Linux. â€‹Some refrigerators with built-in computers, DVR systems including TiVo, and more can attribute their functionality to a Linux derivative.

  • Desktop spaces, 3D desktop virtualization, and other little features we enjoy every day found their start on Linux.

  • The Android operating system powering so many phones and tablets around the world is actually derived from a Linux kernel. While yes, Android is a branch unto itself, it wouldn’t exist as it does today if it weren’t for the work being put in to Linux by the open source community up to that point.

  • Linux, and various derivatives thereof, currently serve as a primary operating system for over 90% of the world’s 500 most powerful supercomputers.
